Hi all

Further to the ongoing problems you are having with invoices from Internet
Names Protection, Internet Names Australia and/or Click 'N Go, there is a
similar ongoing problem here in Austria. I've pasted a news release of sorts
on the issue I translated into English here FYI.

Cheers

Fake Invoices For Domain Registration

http://www.nic.at/english/news.html#Fake

On Wednesday 18 August 2000 a new series of invoices for the 'registration
of your domain' was distributed by the company Internet EDV GmbH to domain
holders. After a close examination of the invoice, it becomes clear that the
invoice is misleading, and is an offer to publicise the domain on the
Internet and not to register a domain. Payment of the invoice gives Internet
EDV GmbH permission to publicise the domain in a 'info-register'.

nic.at wants to ensure that all customers are aware that any payments made
to Internet EDV GmbH do not replace fees due to nic.at under any
circumstances. Further, nic.at has no connection with Internet EDV GmbH nor
the 'info register'.

The data used in the invoice corresponds to the data record of the domain
holder in the Ripe database. In June 2000, nic.at received a number of
complaints from anxious domain holders. As a result of these complaints,
nic.at in co-operation with the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce issued a
statement. (please click here for more information). At the same time nic.at
took legal action against Internet EDV GmbH. On 8 August the court decided
to put aside the case as it considered it not to be significant enough to be
heard by the court. nic.at's lawyer then contacted Internet EDV GmbH who
agreed to cease sending invoices for the 'registration'. Nevertheless
Internet EDV GmbH sent a new series of invoices identical to the first
invoices, but not including the company name 'internick'.
