Hi All, What follows is a reply to my complaint to the Department of Justice, Consumer & Business Affairs Victoria <sigh>. -----BEGIN----- Dear Mr Wegat, I refer to your letter dated 11 October 2000 complaining of the registered Business Name "Domain Name Authority of Australia" may be false and misleading and you believe that the Business Names Act 1962 does not allow for the registration of business names that are misleading or could suggest a connection with a government department, authority or organisation. I have spoken to our Business Affairs Branch and have been advised that the word "Authority" is not prohibited by the Act and the context the word is used in it's name had been reviewed when the name was applied for and found to be acceptable. If you have any queries in this regard, please do not hesitate to contact the Business Affairs Branch Manager, Paul Hopkins on telephone 9627 6507 or the Customer Services Manager, Wayne New on telephone 9627 6769. I further note that the solicitation letter from Domain Name Authority of Australia clearly states that "DNA is a authorised Melbourne IT re-seller specialising in the .com.au namespace" I trust that the above information is of assistance to you. Your sincerely, Anna Yeow Senior Assessment Office Assessment & Analysis Branch -----END----- I know that it's actually the Minister who sets what names are "undesirable" (s.9) - in this case, Marsha Thompson MLC. Any lobbyists amongst us? A petition to the Minister??? RaoulReceived on Tue Oct 31 2000 - 12:12:09 UTC
