Some domain news I came across this morning.

Cheers

Is It Too Late for Sex.Coop?
As if the ongoing battle over sex.com weren't confusing enough, now
there are seven more dots up for grabs. And pre-registrars are selling
them -- but not necessarily guaranteeing delivery.

Getting to Domain Argument

WASHINGTON -- A long-simmering battle over additional domain names to
supplement the still-crowded dot-com suffix has spilled over into
Congress.

On Thursday, a House subcommittee will give critics a chance to complain
about the process the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and
Numbers used when approving or rejecting the additions.

DOT-TV REGISTRAR SUED OVER REGISTRATIONS
BNA's Electronic Commerce & Law Report reports that .TV
Corporation International, the exclusive registrar for the
dot-tv domain, is being sued in California for failing to
register the domain broadband.tv and then later offering to
sell the name to the public for $250,000 per year. Article

ITCANN'T HAPPEN OVERNIGHT
ICANN Chairman Vinton Cerf said in written testimony to
Congress that critics of the organization should give the
process time to work. Cerf is expected to testify today
before the House of Representative's Energy and Commerce
Committee, which called hearings to express its concern over
complaints that ICANN's system for deciding new global TLDs
was faulty and unfair. The hearings can be heard at

THE BOSS NOT THE BOSS OF HIS DOMAIN
A WIPO three-member panel has made a rare ruling against a
famous star, denying Bruce Springsteen the rights to
Brucespringsteen.com. Canadian Jeff Burgar, who has been
involved in a number of cybersquatting actions, won the
split decision when the panel ruled that Springsteen failed
to demonstrate the requisite criteria and criticized several
prior decisions involving the names of well-known
personalities. Decision is at

WHILE ANOTHER PANEL RULES LOCKHEED CAN SUCK
Another split WIPO panel has ruled against Lockheed Martin
in its UDRP action over the domains lockheedsucks.com and
lockheedmartinsucks.com. The panel ruled that the inclusion
of "sucks" in the domain ensures that it is not confusingly
similar. Decision is at

NEW GENERIC TLDS BEING PRE-REGISTERED
While a Congressional committee hears conflicting views on
the ICANN generic TLD selection process today, that
uncertainty hasn't stopped thousands of people from trying
to pre-register domains.
