JUDGE BLOWS THE WHISTLE ON REFEREE SITE
In surprising and disappointing decision, a federal judge
has ordered eReferee.com from using its domain and from
using the term "referee" at all, "either alone or with other
words" in its "domain names, directory names or other such
computer addresses." The judge sided with Referee magazine,
which argued that it owns the trademark rights for "referee"
for the purposes of publication. The decision is
particularly troubling since it effectively overrules a
previous ICANN UDRP decision which found in favor of
eReferee.com. eReferee is appealing the decision.

FED JUDGE RULES AGAINST DOMAIN NAME SCAMMER
A US federal judge has ordered an alleged Internet address
scammer to stop pressuring consumers into buying unnecessary
variants of their own domain names. The FTC claimed that a
Canadian man had convinced more than 27,000 consumers to
register variants of their domain names through his company
at $70 a pop.
