There is only a small benefit to Channel partners, registering a .com.au

While I agree that they probably make a hefty profit, to the best of my
knowledge Melbourne IT don't offer any "bulk discounts" per se on domain
name registration in the .COM.AU name space.

There is only the Melbourne IT "PISP" program which allows resellers to
register and renew domain names for $100 +GST per two years.

So Melbourne IT are probably receiving $100 for each of the renewals ING
performs.

I'll leave that to be sorted out between your and ING's solicitors ;)

If you're expecting Melbourne IT to do anything to stop ING from contacting
your clients you'd better ask yourself why they would do so. From Melbourne
IT's perspective it makes no difference whether the end user, the user's
ISP or ING handle the renewal -- they still get their $100.

In fact I suspect that the more companies there are out there hassling
people to renew the more renewals will take place and the earlier the names
will be renewed. So Melbourne IT may even get more money sooner due to
ING's practices.
