Afilias Bids To Operate Australia's .Au Internet Domain
Afilias - the company that operates the recently created ".info"
Internet suffix - has submitted a bid to run Australia's sovereign
".au" domain on behalf of the Australian government and the
Australian Domain Administration (auDA). Newtown, Pa.-based Afilias
partnered with Melbourne, Australia-based Internet address seller
RegistrarsAsia to submit the .au bid.

International domain operators voice concerns
Yugoslavian voters looking for information on the Internet shortly
before last year's elections found they could not reach the Web site
of the opposition Democratic Party.
The government of Slobodan Milosevic had hijacked the domain name and
steered voters toward a fraudulent site it had set up.

Researchers probe Net's 'dark address space'
Broadband customers and US military systems are the most common
victims of an online phenomenon researchers have dubbed "dark address
space," which leaves some 100 million hosts completely unreachable
from portions of the Internet.

ccTLDs are anxious to reach contractual agreement with ICANN
as a means of establishing credibility, while others see the
