It is theoretically possible for someone to register a name at the precise instant that the name is deleted from the database. ie the process is not a transfer process, it is a delete and re-apply process. It is possible to change the domain name contact details of a domain name after the sale of a business that uses the domain name - see below: "Section 4.2 of the Policy and Section 12 of the Terms and Conditions prevent the sale of a licence to another entity. However if the entity holding the licence is sold then the licence is also sold and remains with the entity. For example in the case of a company selling a registered business the AUNIC WHOIS record can be edited to show the new owner of the business but only if the registered business number has not changed. A request to edit the registry should be sent to Melbourne IT on letterhead with documentation to verify the new owner details. If a company is sold then only the address and contract details need to be updated and this can be done by the new licence holder." Bruce TonkinReceived on Fri Oct 03 2003 - 00:00:00 UTC
