I don't think that the majority of the list *cares* for what fish.com.au
'went for' - or whether or not it's available.

What auDA spends money on, of course, has *absolutely nothing* to do with
'fish.com.au' or *most of the stuff* that 'Ginger Fish' has to say. And
while I *may* be concerned about what auDA spends the money from the sale
of domains on; I am most emphatically *not* concerned about 'fish.com.au'.
It's another generic name. Big deal. See the difference ?

Sounds like what you're looking for is an *official* answer:

"Importantly, the DNS list is not operated by auDA, nor is it an official
communications channel of auDA. auDA kindly provides the hosting
facilities for the list, but posts to this list do not necessarily reflect
the opinions of auDA. We recommend if you seek comment from auDA on
particular issues in an official capacity, you use these contact details."

- you really need to speak directly to auDA about this.
