ausRegistry themselves supply the publicly available
tools and facilities for downloading the whois
database.

Past press release from ausRegistry and Chris Disspain
have gone on about how secure the data is however in
my opinion it is now easier to pillage than the old
aunic database. The only difference is lack of expiry
dates.

Anybody with basic knowledge of programming (in any
internet friendly language) can obtain the data. In
fact with a few computers and the right set up (for
example a company who gains from mailing out
misleading domain renewal notices) could quite easily
download the entire database in a very short period of
time quite legally through the publicly available
sytem.

I find the attitude of the people on the dns list very
naive considering they are meant to be internet savvy.

Good luck on getting some answers out of auDA and
especially Chris Disspain who is a very unhelpful man.
auDa may only have 3 employees but judging from their
salaries they should be quite happy doing nothing.
