I took this to mean that the amount of *new* registrations is less than
previously?

Yes, sure, "there are 2,467,670" **MORE** "names over 10 months which is an
11.5%
increase."
however, for the same period 12 months prior, is the number 12 months ago
significantly more than 2.4 Million NEW registrations for the same 10 month
period?

Maybe, and the .com space has declined in total size over some quarters
in the last few years but that was primarily due to mass deletions of names
that were given away & never renewed.  The release spoke about registrations
declining, of which there is no evidence that I am aware.

As I said below I don't disagree with the thrust of this release, just the
claim that .au is growing while .com isn't.
