I think the id.au's should have been much more relaxed from day one.

I can understand arguments for restricting business domains, etc - but
if a domain is for personal use, then rules that restict what name you
choose are out of place.  Why should other people be able to determine
whether a domain is relevant to me on a personal level?

There are still retsrictions of course.... but I think this was a positive
step for id.au - and long overdue.
