Global Internet Governance Is Working But Needs To Be More
Inclusive
The current system of Internet governance seemed to be
working well, and the question was how to better coordinate
the work of specialized bodies and ensure the involvement
of all stakeholders, participants told a forum on the issue
that concluded today at United Nations Headquarters.

UN Global Forum on Internet Governance
More than 200 leaders from government, business and civil
society attended the Global Forum on Internet Governance,
held on 25 and 26 March 2004 and organized by the United
Nations Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)
Task Force. The forum, held at United Nations Headquarters
in New York, was intended, according to a UN press release,
"to contribute to worldwide consultations to prepare the
ground to a future Working Group on Internet Governance to
be established by Secretary-General Kofi Annan, which is to
report to the second phase of the World Summit on the
Information Society (Tunis, 2005)".

Whose “information society”?
Was WSIS worth it? The general verdict on the recent United
Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) held
in December 2003 was a thumbs-down. The Summit outcomes
were limited after an arduous and expensive process.
However, argues Anriette Esterhuysen, APC executive
director, from the perspective of many civil society
organisations that participated actively, the WSIS has
created a new opportunity for solidarity across
ideological, sectoral and geographical divides.

Progress But No Conclusion From Net Governance Meeting
A United Nations meeting on internet governance last week
gave public and private sectors an unprecedented
