Information technology and communications minister
Dayanidhi Maran said that the Centre was formulating
laws to protect data and these would be introduced

create recognition in the marketplace. What may seem
the most obvious trademark is not, however, usually
the right one. Trademarks originated in marks put on
ancient pottery to identify the artisan. They are used
to indicate both the source and quality of the
merchandise. Consider the image that comes to mind
when seeing such well-known trademarks as Tim Hortons,
McDonalds or Jaguar. ...  Another preliminary step is
to see if the .com and .ca domain names for the
proposed trademark are available. Depending on the
nature of the business and product, it may not be a
good business move to obtain a trademark that someone
else is already using as a domain name.
