Bribery, Porn, and Spam Are the Path to Riches in the App World
As money floods into their market, and the stakes get ever higher, app makers are getting paranoid. Paranoid that competitors are buying traffic spikes, using porn to attract users, and spamming everyone and their mom on the way to the top of the leaderboards. Above all, app makers are paranoid that the competition is playing dirty better than they are ? tricking users out of their time and investors out of their money.

Cyber Criminals Infiltrate Even Small Businesses by Terry Zink
I read an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal today entitled Cyber Criminals Sniff out Vulnerable Firms. It's a story of a small business owner in New York whose company was broken into by cyber criminals and stole $1.2 million from its bank accounts, although the owner was able to later recover about $800,000 of that. The moral of the story is that small businesses feel like they are not a major target for online thefts like these.

The recent, targeted ?High Roller? cyber-attacks on wealthy corporate bank accounts yielding tens of millions of dollars was analysed in a report recently published by McAfee and Guardian Analytics. The report describes the technical details and the impact of a series of cyber-attacks. The old adage that ?criminals go where the money is? today means that ?bank robbers go online?, as the Executive Director of ENISA, Professor Udo Helmbrecht states. It should come as no surprise that large organized crime groups are targeting online banking sites. Still, the attacks drew much attention, for three reasons.

When Google released its new Copyright Transparency Report on takedown requests of its Search results, we got new insights into the massive number of complaints the search giant receives. We also saw that there are many requests that don't seem to meet the standard of a "good faith belief" of infringement. Google said in the report that it refuses to comply with requests that are obviously inaccurate or intentionally abusive, which accounts for about 3% of the total. While Google deserves to be commended for that example of good citizenship, they can't catch everything.
