Formation of the Coordination Group

On 14 March 2014, the NTIA announced its intention to transition its stewardship role of IANA functions, and called upon ICANN to launch and facilitate a process with the community to derive a proposal to transition the IANA functions to the global multistakeholder community, meeting the criteria set out by NTIA.

Does ICANN violate Human Rights? The Council of Europe report by Milton Mueller

As we move toward the IANA transition, many observers are concerned about the relationship between an autonomous ICANN and Internet freedom. One proposal even went so far as to propose to replace NTIA oversight with an ?Internet Freedom Panel? that could veto any ICANN decisions that threaten Internet freedom. That proposal is unworkable because of the overly broad scope of the veto power and the infinite regress problem of who would oversee the oversight panel. Nevertheless, the idea of trying to structure the transition in ways that impose constitutional limits on ICANN?s power to regulate Internet content is a good one.

Delta Dental Goes After ... Everyone

Have you ever visited a dentist who went after every possible cavity with his drill ? all in one visit? In this week?s World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) decision, Delta Dental appears to have gone after every possible respondent ? nine, to be exact ? in one complaint. This type of consolidating can only be done where (i) the disputed domain names are subject to common ownership or control, and (ii) the consolidation would be fair and equitable to all parties.
