An autocratic country in global multistakeholder Internet governance by Farzaneh Badii

A recently published report supported by the Internet Policy Observatory about Iran?s approach to Internet governance provides insight into how an autocratic government plays a role in Internet policy and operations. And as the report shows, the situation is not all dark and gloomy. Some important points can be concluded from understanding Iran?s approach:

Seeing the Big Picture: A Reflection One Year into the IANA Stewardship Transition by Theresa Swinehart

Last Saturday, March 14th, marked the one-year anniversary of the NTIA's announcement of its intent to transfer its stewardship of the IANA functions to the Internet's global multistakeholder community. In the year since, the work and dedication shown by the stakeholders all over the world to develop a transition proposal has been impressive. Yet, I get questions all of the time asking, "What is going on now? Where's the proposal?"

Two Years Later: The Domain Industry in the Middle East

The Middle East is still a young market when it comes to Internet domain names. A lot of ground work needs to be done in the region to build awareness, showcase opportunities and exchange knowledge on DNS and the value it brings to the economy. We have focused strategic tracks in our Middle East Strategy that we continue to develop as part of enhancing the region's engagement in this field.

Clarification to Pre-Delegation Testing Specifications

The PDT provider has updated the PDT test specifications and supporting resources. The notable changes to the test specifications are summarized below, and focus on the DNS testing and the IDN tests. The changes to the test cases are intended to increase clarity of the requirements for the Registry operators. In addition to modifying some of the test cases, registry operators should note the PDT provider has added a test node to their system that must be accepted by the registry's systems.

ICANN?s revenue estimate downgrade isn?t a new gTLDs disaster story

In its annual operating plan and budget for fiscal year 16, posted this week for public comment, ICANN has significantly reduced its estimated revenues from new gTLDs for the current fiscal year (FY). While a negative for the organisation, it shouldn?t be read as a significant statement on the gTLD programme.

.US is the top-level domain for the United States of America. As stakeholders in the .US ccTLD, we all share a vested interest in making sure that .US continues to be a vibrant namespace that reflects the diversity, creativity and success of our people. As the Internet continues to grow and evolve, it's important that the .US domain does too. To meet these needs, Neustar and the usTLD Stakeholder Council plan to hold a virtual .US Public Stakeholder Town Hall Meeting.

Budgeting for Dot Brands

If you?re inside a company with one or more gTLDs, you likely have been budgeting for continued costs associated with the acquisition of the gTLD. Once you sign your Registry Agreement and move into operational mode, the budget you need will shift and the way you think about that budget is important for the long-term positioning of the asset within the financial structure of the organization.
