CANN They? International Internet Governance and the ICANN Case by Ivory Mills

Abstract: ... This paper conducts a critical examination of international internet governance, focusing specifically on ICANN in efforts to understand its role and implications for the internet, geopolitics, and international telecommunications regulation. Unlike prior studies, this research focuses specifically on the organizational and inter-organizational structure of ICANN to understand the networked model of governance in this context, identify noteworthy stakeholders, parse strategies, objectives, and outcome discrepancies that may exist.

New The.nlyst out now

Last year, Dutch people spent roughly 13.7 billion euros on line. That is about 17 per cent of all consumer spending in the Netherlands, and nearly 30 per cent up on the year before. Within the overall increase in the volume of on-line spending, the share of purchases made using a smartphone or tablet went up sharply, to more than a third. And the importance of e-commerce is bound to grow further. The internet serves as a platform for an endless variety of shopping formulas, according to Professor Cor Molenaar in an interview for this edition of The.nlyst.

How are New gTLDs being used? The CSC New gTLD Utilization Report

To date, over 800 domain names have been registered in .brand/closed TLDs. The majority have been registered in the following extensions: .nra, .citic, ?? (.citic), and .cancerresearch. Within the .brand registrations, some of the most-used terms to the left of the dot are: nic (an obvious requirement), domaintest, www, start, home, donate, plaza, magazine, support, and foundation. As the representative sample is quite small, we expect these common terms to change over time. It is also clear that most brands are still in the planning stages. Based on our analysis, only approximately 46% of the registered domains have properly configured DNS zone files, which might be an indication of utilization.

.VOTE Solves Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz?s Domain Name Problem

Presidential candidate Ted Cruz?s domain name problem is serious: TedCruz.com and a number of other web sites that appear to be his are actually either totally unrelated to his campaign (e.g., TedCruzForAmerica.com, TedCruz.com, and TedCruz2016.com) or even have negative content about him (TedCruz.ca). State of the Web 2015: Vulnerability Report

In February, security researchers reported Forbes.com had been hacked. As a result, any visitor to the site was infected ? without clicking on any links. This incident was just the latest reminder that seemingly safe activities on the Web ? like browsing the home page of a well known and trusted site like Forbes.com ? is risky. With over one billion websites on the Internet, and more than 100,000 new sites coming online daily, we found ourselves wondering: Can we quantify the level of risk on the Web?

nz/au: Netflix spars with Australian website over local offerings

An Australian price-comparison website has drawn Netflix' ire after questioning whether the company and other internet television services offer value for money. ... InternetNZ spokesman David Cormack said New Zealanders who were not on unlimited broadband might need to be aware of the amount of data they could consume by watching streaming television services such as Netflix, Lightbox and Neon. Finder.com.au had put that at one gigabyte per hour of standard-definition video and up to 3Gb for a high-definition stream.
