Updated Auction Schedule

Overview: Contention sets are groups of applications containing identical or confusingly similar applied for gTLD strings. Contention sets must be resolved prior to the execution of a Registry Agreement for an applied-for gTLD string. An ICANN facilitated auction is a last resort for resolving string contention sets, as described in the Applicant Guidebook (AGB) section 4.3.

DNS Workshop and Registrar Outreach in India

India holds great promise to contribute to the next billion Internet users and also to Internet governance. Despite having more than 300 million Internet users, the country suffers from infrastructural and capacity constraints. However, there is growing interest to learn and improve and, therefore, any effort towards capacity building has a multiplier effect as well. Last week, Champika Wijayatunga, Howard Li and I had the opportunity to experience this multiplier effect first hand.

Global Conference on Cyberspace 2015

On 16 and 17 April, around 1800 participants ? primarily from the government sector ? but also from business, civil society, and the technical Internet community ? descended on The Hague for the fourth Global Conference on Cyberspace (GCCS 2015). In contrast to many Internet governance meetings, where telecommunications ministers and departmental staff attend, at the GCCS2015, many deputy prime ministers and foreign affairs ministers attended. This attendance helped to increase recognition of the fact that Internet issues are no longer just a technology and communications issue, but are now inseparable from issues that used to only be considered in an offline context.

GCCS2015: Encouraging governments at the highest level to participate in multistakeholder internet governance

2015 is definitely turning out to be The Year of Internet Governance. And so it was with last week?s two-day Global Conference on Cyber Space 2015 (GCCS2015) in The Hague.
