ICANN accountability: a final hurdle looms by Jordan Carter

At ICANN's next open meetings (March in Marrakech), final community
decisions about significant reform of the organisation's accountability
arrangements are due. Ever since the United States agreed to the IANA
Stewardship transition process back in 2014, accountability has been
intertwined as a necessary step before the transition is signed off.

ccTLD & gTLD NEWS

.cloud domain launches globally and is set to be one of the most popular
domains for businesses and individuals

Today marks a key milestone in the release of the .cloud TLD extension,
which is now finally available to the general public on a
first-come-first-served basis. Businesses and individuals will now have the
opportunity to adopt the new domain extension - an alternative to the likes
of '.com' '.uk' or '.io' - to better communicate their online brands.

.CLOUD Floating High On General Availability

The .cloud new gTLD entered General Availability on 16 February and received

the official registry's results page for searches involving their names, it
could generate a lot of leads.

The Growing Importance of Language in UDRP Proceedings by Doug Isenberg

An increasing number of domain name disputes are being conducted in
languages other than English, a trend that presents a new challenge for some
trademark owners. In 2015, 85.77% of all domain names disputes at the WIPO
were conducted in English - down from an all-time average of 88.01% and a
record high (in 2000) of 99.84% (disregarding 1999, the first year of the
UDRP, because only one case was filed - in English -- that year).

Will the TPP transform intellectual property regulation in Asia?

The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) may yet be the agreement that most
transforms national regulatory systems. It could be even more transformative
than the Uruguay Round (1986-1994) that delivered the WTO and the 1994
Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS).
But much depends on if, and when, China joins the TPP.
