Internet or Splinternet? by Joseph S. Nye, Jr., a former US assistant
secretary of defense and chairman of the US National Intelligence Council,

Who owns the Internet? The answer is no one and everyone. The Internet is a
network of networks. Each of the separate networks belongs to different
companies and organizations, and they rely on physical servers in different
countries with varying laws and regulations. But without some common rules
and norms, these networks cannot be linked effectively. Fragmentation ?
meaning the end of the Internet ? is a real threat.

in the proposal by the IANA Stewardship Transition Coordination Group (ICG)
as provided to the ICANN Board and transmitted to NTIA on 10 March 2016,

ICANN conducted Phase 2 of its Global Consumer Research Survey to determine
consumer response to domain names, both legacy and new gTLDs. The ICANN

at measuring several variables like TLD awareness, consumers' interaction

The malicious software used in the cyberattacks on numerous Vietnamese

Misuse of Language: ?Cyber?; When War is Not a War, and a Weapon is Not a

The terms ?cyber war? and ?cyber weapon? are thrown around casually, often
with little thought to their non-?cyber? analogs. Many who use the terms
?cyber war? and ?cyber weapon? relate these terms to ?attack,? framing the
conversation in terms of acceptable responses to ?attack? (namely,
?strike-back,? ?hack-back,? or an extreme interpretation of the vague term
?active defense?).

Fair Use Registration of Domain Names for Artists and Hobbyists by Gerald M.
Levine

There is in the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act a provision not
expressly found in the UDRP (at least, not in so many words) but the concept
is nevertheless present in the Policy by construction... The term "fair use"
is typically associated with protected speech (criticism and commentary),
fan websites, and nominative use of domain names but it is not limited to
those uses. It's a flexible principle in both trademark and copyright law.

IPv6 at LinkedIn Part I

To celebrate the anniversary of World IPv6 Day (June 6, 2011), we at
LinkedIn wanted to mark the occasion in a significant way. We?ve worked for
a number of months on enabling IPv6 in our data centers. We?ve designed the
new architecture and prepared network, systems, and tools, so on June 6 we
enabled IPv6 in one of our staging environments. This was a milestone toward
having functional dual stack IPv4/IPv6 in all our data centers, which will
be our next goal before we start to retire, or begin ?chippIn? away at,
IPv4.

IPv6 Inside LinkedIn Part II

In Part I of this series, we explained why we decided to move our internal
network over to IPv6. The LinkedIn site has been available to the public
over IPv6 since 2014, and our employees have been able to browse the
internet over IPv6 for even longer. While many parts of our network have
been IPv6 for a while, until recently our internal data center network was
still on IPv4. In this post, we?ll explain from a network operator point of
view why we needed to create a global network with IPv4 and IPv6, as well as
the challenges we faced when we began to enable dual stack in our data
centers with the goal to one day remove IPv4.

Is the Jet.com sale a win for investors, execs and Walmart?

I?ve heard a lot of people talk about the Jet.com sale to Walmart.com for
$3B as a failure or bail-out of a business that is going downhill. At the
same time, if you look at the numbers, it looks like all parties involved
are coming out ahead.

Is it Time to Invest in Legal Cannabis Domain Names?

... Last year officially marked the year of the Cannabis Domain Name Boom,
at least so far. Hundreds of cannabis domain names were registered last
year, at what appears to be a record pace. This is an obvious indication
that investors from all walks of life are taking the industry seriously and
are interested in the new potential green rush. They would be spot on,
because the state of Colorado is closing in on a billion dollars worth of
legal cannabis sold in just a few short years. This is a huge exploding
market that will just continue to expand. Legal cannabis is currently a $5.4
billion industry.
