IMO Patrick is right, and as can be seen from the fall-out resulting from
his original posting, people will use a mail-list to promote a particular
perspective to a (seemingly captive) audience - albeit postings that may be
unrelated to the purpose of the list - I for one have enjoyed the
discourse... though in this case the delete button has been rather active!

However... others are also right in suggesting that censorship is
inappropriate (the term "moderation" really has no meaning when used in the
context of restricting an individuals right to voice an opinion - remember
some people may consider the issues raised to be appropriate to auDA - we
all have differing perspectives on exactly how auDA policies impact on the
global stage - and isn't the very purpose of this list to seek the opinions
of those involved/interested in Australian Domain administration?). This is
a forum where any or all of us can simple delete unwanted postings, or if we
so choose, completely filter correspondence from an individual with the
click of a mouse - hence there really is no need to enforce censorship.

As some postings are increasingly containing personal attacks... perhaps it
is time to find middle ground (or to ackowledge that the value of this forum
is it's very ability to distribute differing opinions, so those of us who
wish to challenge paradigms and preconceptions can do so!), and to move on
to more topical matters?

Regards, Don
