id.au was started in 1995.  While the most active *.id.au domains
are run by volunteers, there are also *.id.au domains run by
commercial organisations - some charge money for registrations.

If anyone is interested to see the Usenet message Robert Elz posted
in December 1994 to start the ball rolling, you can find it at
	ftp://ftp.wattle.id.au/pub/wattle.id.au/kre.1994-12-28

Historians can find a few other documents from the mid 1990's
relating to wattle.id.au and id.au in the same directory.
