Just to clarify:  If you want to be certain that your domains will always
resolve (and reduce the number of lookups required) you should always
have nameservers that are within the same domain they are nameservers
for (aka "in-bailwick") and use glue.  This of course requires you to
notify the registry when the IP address of your nameservers changes.
Unfortunately some registries have bugs in their delegation scripts that
make things difficult.
