I would have thought csrio.gov.au would have been the right choice. I think
R.E delegated it to them in the early days as they were involved with Melb
Uni. Not because they were a research institute.

csiro was a research institute, and im guessing that they had one since they
were involved in the early days, as DNS was stuff of fantasy and not every
day life at that stage.DNS was considered scientific research, and they
would have assigned themselves it as one of australias prime research
institutes.

A Legacy Domain.

Even the csiro see's the value in running www.csiro.com.au as well as just
www.csiro.au

Should new 2LD's in au be introduced based on demand or providing greater
choice?

If someone like IBM, for instance, came along and asked for ibm.au, I
don't see any problem with that as long as management of the 2LD is
efficient, and auDA could charge a hefty sum for the right to have a 2LD.

I wouldn't like to see 2LD's handed out to anyone, major corporations at
first maybe, see how it goes.
