ccIDNs: So Many Choices, So Little Time by Elisa Cooper
As a result of ICANN's IDN ccTLD Fast Track process, which was launched in
November of last year, a number of new ccIDNs (Country Code Internationalized
Domain Names) have been successfully added to the root including: China (.??,
.??), Egypt (.???), Hong Kong (.???? ), Russia (.??), Saudi Arabia (.????????),
Taiwan (.????, .????) and the UAE (.??????). ... With so many new registration
possibilities available, and several Sunrise periods quickly approaching, many
corporate domain managers are asking themselves whether new registrations should
be added to portfolios which are already bursting at the seams.

Four-millionth .nl domain name registered
On Wednesday 18 August at about noon, SIDN ? the organisation responsible for
the .nl internet domain ? registered the domain name tomgoesusa.nl for Tom ter
Heerdt from Didam. The registration brought the total number of .nl domain names
up to four million. To celebrate reaching this milestone, SIDN is giving Tom an
iPad and waiving all registration fees on his new domain name for as long as he
keeps it. ... Absolute figures only tell half the story, though: in proportion
to its population of 16 million, the Netherlands has the highest local domain
name density in the world, with roughly one .nl domain for every four people.

Undesirable Consequences of Empirical Studies on Cybersquatting by Alex Tajirian
Empirical studies on cyber- and typosquatting (for example, Moore and Edelman's
"Measuring the Perpetrators and Funds of Typosquatting") may inadvertently
encourage bad behavior. People tend to do what most other people are doing, even
when the given act is presented to them as something wrong.

Why ENUM is so important by Jay Daley, Chief Executive of .nz Registry Services.
The best way to explain ENUM is to start by talking about email and remind
ourselves how that works. If you are a consumer and you want email then your ISP
will generally provide it for you as part of their service. They assign you an
email address that ends with their domain name, configure you on their email
server and away you go. Not much different from a consumer telephone service,
but possibly less functional because you can't port an email address like this
to another provider as you can with telephone numbers.

Internet Continues to Grow at Astonishing Pace (Perspectives from RIPE NCC

We are at the height of vacation season here in the Netherlands, and the RIPE
NCC headquarters in Amsterdam are quieter than usual. The downtime has given me
a chance to reflect on how the recent economic downturn has affected our
membership growth. The good news is that it hasn't.

au: Naming your business: the naked truth
What's in a name? Well, when it comes to small business, quite a lot, actually.
... It's also worth taking the time to look online at the domain names that are
available. Registration of a business name does not guarantee the availability
of the same website address. But if the two are not identical, there are
fallback options.

After a Brief Break Buyers Were Back Out in Force This Week, Giving the Domain
Aftermarket a Solid Boost
After taking a brief break last week, domain buyers returned to the market in a
big way this week, producing one of the summer's most solid outings. Sedo led
the charge with a $250,000 sale, however just minutes before publishing this
report we received a request from Sedo that we not release the name in question.
The company said the transaction was supposed to have been kept private but an
internal error resulted in it being put on the list of sales they sent this
week.

fast money is to invest in domain names, argues a domain name brokerage that
will auction off a passel of domain names on wednesday in New York. Stocks.com,
Rate.com, Quotes.com, Reggae.com, Cable.com, Artist.com, Alcohol.com and
voters.com are among the 934 names up on the block at this auction. Oversee.net,
through its SnapNames service, will oversee the auction, which it expects to
bring in millions of dollars.
