Budgeting for Brand gTLDs by Jennifer Wolfe

For most companies, the gTLD was an investment in the future of the internet in response to a short time window in which to apply for a gTLD. Wanting to gain a competitive edge, half the world?s top brands invested the $185,000 application fee for one or more gTLDs.

Registrants join the ?.club?, but are brand owners outside looking in?

With heavyweight endorser 50 Cent throwing his weight behind the ?.club? gTLD, the string has shot to the top of the gTLD registrations table. However, new research from Domain Incite?s Kevin Murphy suggests that brand owners are shying away from making wholesale defensive registrations.

Alternatives for .COM ? (Part 1) by Jean Guillon

There are plenty of new domain names and if .COM never had any real identity or true meaning, it is quite possible that new gTLDs may bring new ideas to those who want to acquire a global identity without focusing on a country, a niche market, a specific industry, a community or just anything which does not cover "the world". I made a list of these new domain names with potential to replace .COM and I believe that the alternatives might be in the list down below.

Cyber espionage and US-China relations: The world's biggest candy store

Don't believe anything you read on the cyber espionage spat between US and China. Depending on who's talking, the US is a 'thief crying stop thief' and a 'mincing rascal'; or China's 'scale of commercial hacking is immense', perhaps the 'greatest transfer of wealth in history'.

Complexity as the Enemy of Security

Late last month, hackers allied with the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) compromised the Web site for the RSA Conference, the world?s largest computer security gathering. The attack, while unremarkable in many ways, illustrates the continued success of phishing attacks that spoof top executives within targeted organizations. It?s also a textbook example of how third-party content providers can be leveraged to break into high-profile Web sites.
