Corero Network Security, a leading provider of First Line of Defense? security solutions against DDoS attacks, today announced the findings of its Trends and Analysis Report for the first half of 2015. Analyzing customer data, Corero found that attackers are continuing to leverage sub-saturating DDoS attacks with increasing frequency, using shorter attack durations to evade legacy cloud DDoS scrubbing solutions to cause network disruptions and, in some cases, distract victims while other malware infiltrates networks and steals customer information and corporate data.

Some Thoughts on the Open Internet by Geoff Huston

I?m sure we?ve all heard about ?the Open Internet.? The expression builds upon a rich pedigree of term ?open? in various contexts. We seem to have this connotation that ?open? is some positive attribute, and when we use the expression of the ?Open Internet? it seems that we are lauding it in some way. But in what way? So let?s ask the question: What does the ?Open Internet? mean?

< <http://www.potaroo.net/ispcol/2015-10/open.html> http://www.potaroo.net/ispcol/2015-10/open.html>

Thoughts on the Open Internet - Part 2: The Where and How of "Internet Fragmentation" by Geoff Huston

In defining what is meant by "Internet Fragmentation" it is useful to briefly describe what is meant by its opposite, an "Open and Coherent Internet". As we've explored in the previous section, "coherence" implies that each of the elements of the Internet are orchestrated to work together to produce a seamless Internet which does not expose the boundaries between discrete elements.

< <http://www.circleid.com/posts/20151006_open_internet_part_2_where_and_how_of_internet_fragmentation/> http://www.circleid.com/posts/20151006_open_internet_part_2_where_and_how_of_internet_fragmentation/>

Thoughts on the Open Internet - Part 3: Local Filtering and Blocking by Geoff Huston

The public policy objectives in the area of content filtering and blocking space are intended to fulfil certain public policy objectives by preventing users within a country from accessing certain online content. The motives for such public policies vary from a desire to uphold societal values through to concessions made to copyright holders to deter the circulation of unauthorised redistribution of content.
