Quietly, symbolically, US control of the internet was just ended by Maria

It?s early March in Marrakech, and a gleaming conurbation of hotels run in

Don't Break out the Champagne Just Yet: More Work to Do Before IANA
Transition Occurs by J. Scott Evans

After two years of meetings, comment periods, and more meetings, the ICANN
submitted its IANA transition proposal to the US Department of Commerce last
week at the end of the ICANN 55 meeting in Marrakech. While this is a
critical milestone and the multi-stakeholder community should be commended
for its efforts, several concerns still remain.

Editorial Cutting U.S. ties to the Net

No government or interest group should control the Internet. On that point
you'll find broad agreement, particularly among the world's democracies. The
United States, however, has final say over one small but important aspect of
the net: keeping track of the list of ?TLDs,? such as .com and .org.

On 10 March 2016, a plan to transition the IANA stewardship from the U.S.

to NTIA for consideration. Witnessing the extraordinary efforts of the

The Future of Interdomain Interconnection and Traffic Control by Nick
Feamster

Today, we are excited to announce, in partnership with the Open Networking
Foundation and Open Source SDN, the official launch of iSDX - open-source
controller software for an industrial-scale Software-Defined Internet
exchange point. iSDX allows independently operated networks to interconnect
and exchange traffic in completely new ways. This software, which we've been
developing for nearly three years, now finally operates at the scale of the
world's largest IXPs and interoperates with SDN-capable hardware switches,
opening up new possibilities for interdomain business relationships and
traffic exchange.

First Annual State of the Cloud and Service Provider Ecosystem Survey

break/fix ?IT guys? helped businesses with their computer problems and the
cloud hadn?t yet begun to rain on the hosting parade.

A few days ago, I saw that the Kiwi.com domain name had changed hands.
Kiwi.com had been owned by Future Media Architects, and the Whois changed to
show the registrant as Skypicker.com S.R.O.

au: Rights holders, ISPs still discussing technical minutiae of site
blocking

Internet service providers are not expected to put up a fight against
prospective court orders that will compel them to block access to a number
of piracy-linked websites, but the finer details of how such a block will be

Aussie Pirate Bay Blocking Process Begins in Federal Court

Foxtel and the movie distribution division of Village Roadshow appeared in
Federal Court today in the first legal action in Australia aimed at blocking
pirate sites. Their targets include The Pirate Bay, Torrentz, isoHunt,
TorrentHound and SolarMovie but due to existence of dozens of proxies,
mirrors and clones, the process is far from straightforward.
