CANADIAN COURTS STRUGGLE WITH DOMAIN NAMES My latest Globe and Mail cyberlaw column highlights two recent Ontario domain name cases that suggest that the courts are still struggling with certain domain name concepts. In one case involving iTravel.ca, the judge granted an injunction out of concern that the domain might be transferred outside Canadian jurisdiction, something not permitted by dot-ca rules. In an unreported case involving expressvu.org, the judge "expressed the view" that ownership of the dot-com version of the domain should have alleviated the trademark owners concerns. <http://news.globetechnology.com/servlet/GAMArticleHTMLTemplate?tf=globetechnology/TGAM/NewsFullStory.html&cf=globetechnology/tech-config-neutral&slug=TWGEIS&date=20010517> FTC ISSUES WARNING ON DOMAIN REGISTRATIONS The FTC has issued a consumer warning against registering domains outside of the ICANN-approved list.
