One of my clients received a renewal notice today from IRA, now in my
possession.

They proudly proclaim to be "a fully licensed channel partner of Melbourne
IT", and offer to "renew your domain name through us until February 2005"

As far as I know, such renewal can't even be done this far ahead of the
expiry date. Doesn't this then constitute misrepresentation? As does the
claim of being a "channel partner" as there is no such thing as far as I can
recall.

Comments please from MIT / auDA / legal boys.

Hello David,

Do you think that one day a company would go to the point of sending a
renewal notice like 24 hours after the domain name was registered ?
Or what about picking names at random in the yellow pages and sending
renewal notices for domain names that haven't been registered yet ?

One a more serious note, fortunately resellers educate their clients and
provide them the necessary information ( ACCC contact details... ) to take
action immediately.
The best part i think is that they never learn, you would think that seeing
companies going to the federal court would scare a few apprentices from the
scam side of the force, it doesn't look like that.. sometimes it looks like
they're asking for it..

Best Regards
Ginge

Well now I am impressed. I have just this morning received a posted renewal
notice for my Own domain name saintspc.com.au

They are certainly getting ahead of the world and it would be very risky to
pay them.

I mean my domain name does not expire till Feb 2003 thats a full 9 months
ahead of the actual renewal date.

I mean whos to know that in 9 months they are anyone will still be around
and have payed the fee for this to happened!

I mean no wonder there is Confusion in the market place People just don't
know with all this stuff going around! We can only hope that auDA can stop
all this when they finally get full control of the .au and the policies that
all these companies must follow.

My $0.02 worth

Saints PC Pty Ltd

PS I mean I have posted here in the past and you would think to get no
reaction they would have removed all of those that post here from their list
of people to send this stuff to!
