.com.au is for trading commercially.

$150 bux or so per year is nothing if you expect to trade commercially with
a .com.au 

ABN's are free anyway. 

If they want personal domains for family websites, why the heck would they
use a commercial domain , its not a service they provide or product they
sell.

Just cos .com.au looks nice?
