Dillution of the namespace validity where .au domain names may be registered by anyone in the world, even if they have nothing to do with Australia is a bad thing in my opinion. Domain name trading is a bad thing in my opinion as it it introduces marketing practices that lead to cybersquatting and a false valuation of domain names. I'm afaid the public good is not obvious to me, you will need to lay out what you see as the benefits for me to understand what you are alluding to.
