GOVERNANCE
*****************
Made in the USA: The World Wide Web
"Made in the USA" is the tag the World Wide Web has
worn since its inception, through U.S.-centric domain
names like .com and .gov. So why isn't the Internet
reflecting our technically saavy global world by
adding a new generation of domain-names? Is Washington
worried about losing its control of the Web?

U.S. oversight of Internet could end
U.S. oversight of the Internet could end if the
Department of Commerce approves an agreement to extend
a California company's control of the ".com"
infrastructure, said the leader of a local domain-name
registration company.

Who'll run the Internet is main bout in
telecommunications fight
A major wrestling match in Congress over control of
the Internet features some strange alliances - rockers
and evangelists vs. phone companies and the Bells'
usually biggest adversary, cable TV companies.

agreement.

au: NetRegistry takes title of No. 1 provider of
Australian domain names (news release)
NetRegistry registered 30% of all .com.au
registrations in May, overtaking MelbourneIT whose
100% monopoly of this market has dropped to below 20%
in less than 4 years.

Getting the Drop on Domain-Name Abuse
A loophole in the process that assigns Web addresses
not only aids those who play fast and loose with the
rules, it's also hurting small businesses: We
Americans have a big problem -- actually, it's
everybody's problem -- and it hurts all Internet
users. More than 3.5 million good .com domain names on
any given day are made unavailable to small businesses
and others who would actually register and use them in
ways for which the names were intended.

Domain 'kiting' threat on the rise

The recent polls saw increased traffic to political

yesterday.
