Hang on a second, Blaze, nothing was said about NetRegistry pricing - the
$399 fee was mentioned in connection with Melbourne IT, so please lets not
imply otherwise.

If we are talking about a Registrant Name Change then NetRegistry charges
$220, which is a little over half what Melbourne IT charge. However, you
need to compare these transactions (which are few, far between and take
quite a bit of explanation and paperwork) to automated domain name
registrations that have a very low cost to provide. Really, after a
consultant has spoken to you for a while, communicated with the old owner
and the new, sorted all the paperwork and made the submission, I wouldn't be
surprised if we made much more margin than on a regular registration.

I too believe NetRegistry's fees are incredibly excessive in this
circumstance.

I'd be interested to know your findings as to a registrar with better
transfer fees.

Cheers

I do abide by the rules, which is why I posted a question on this forum (to
find out what the rules are)

I have no problem paying a transfer fee, but have a look at
http://www.whatsinaname.com.au and checkout Melbourne IT's markup ...

I am not a customer of Melbourne IT, so I am not trying to avoid paying a
bill ..

I am trying to:

a) avoid having a domain registered with them.

b) not paying an excessive charge.

I consider what I am doing 'good business'

Cheers Tony

Tony

I would suggest that you abide by the rules and pay the necessary charges

and let your financials reflect the expense

Business is business

I can never understand people trying to aviod expenses

Reducing them yes avoiding them no

How would you like it if your customers looked to avoid paying you

Productivity that's the key- it's not so much the costs it how much can your
business earn

Evaluate the cost and return and if the make or break is $399 then I would
reevealute the whole transaction

:-)

Happy new year

Thanks for the reply,

Actually I am just buying a business that owns a domain name ... I have just

been told by Melbourne IT that as it no longer has the same abn as it did

for the previous owner, I am up for a transfer fee.

Cheers Tony
