To clarify, its on NXDOMAIN only and not 404 - On the upside they  
appear to only be doing it for www records, if it were a blanket  
policy on all NXDOMAINs there would be issues with a whole range of  
things, think RBL's etc (As per your Verisign example).

Its only on the personal plans, not business plans and worst case  
scenario you can simply use another set of DNS resolvers.
