I made a typo, where i said "Ability to register xyz.com " I meant "Ability to register xyz.au" (Paragraph two, line one.) -----Original Message----- From: Sean Finn [mailto:sean§teknol.com.au] Sent: Friday, September 26, 2003 2:58 PM To: dns§lists.auda.org.au Subject: RE: [DNS] Nomination for auDA board. ability to register xyz.au would see things like au.com for sure. Ability to register xyz.com would also de-value all of the marketing, branding, and general thumping into the non technical public's head that has gone into .com.au .net.au id.au .org.au .asn.au etc etc. The general public recognise a .com.au in most cases, even my 80-something year old aunt who has never even used a calculator in her life still buys me socks with .com and .com.au on it (Although that pair that said www.millenium.2000 etc etc made me cringe) But you get the general gist of my opinion. i do NOT want to have to reeducate clients etc ad nauseum, as my workload will explode and i'll dream nightmares about :// 's and .au's forever more. Ability to register xyz.au would be great but is it a good idea on a logistical level? If someone registered xyz.au and then sold thousands of subdomains, then the xyz.au company goes under, all the sub domain people effected would be jumping over the auDA. With this in mind, if there was the facility to register xyz.au the requirements would have to be very high, close to ausregistry level id expect. More 2LD's? If a proposal is made and it addresses all policy criteria and I agree with the proposal I'd vote for when it came up at the board meeting. IMO there's no reason not to add more 2LD's, I guess if the demand is there, new 2LD's will be created. In the same ballpark though, I would push the 'power of attorney' issue.
